The competition

The TRA VISIONS 2020 YOUNG RESEARCHER COMPETITION is aimed at University and Technical Institutes young researchers pursuing bachelor degrees and higher. The competition presents an opportunity for young researchers to showcase their work on an international stage at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2020 Conference between the 27th and 30th of April 2020 in Helsinki.

Initially, participants will be invited to submit an abstract under one of the following TRA 2020 topics (Call for Ideas) which cover the general areas of:

RA1 Climate Change, Mitigation and Resilience

RA2 Digitalisation, Digital Safety and Security

RA3 Automation and Robotisation

RA4 Electrification, Energy and Power Alternatives

RA5 User-focused Mobility services, Servitisation

RA6 Social Change and Quality of Life

RA7 Technology and Engineering

RA8 Planning, Modelling and System Design

RA9 Policy and Regulation, Market Efficiency, Competitiveness

RA10 Transport Safety and Security

RA11 Investments, Finance and Public-Private Partnerships

RA12 Innovation and Human Capital

The registration period will be open until 31/10/2019 and has been extended from 30/06/2019, where all the participants are invited to register their ideas and submit a title and a short abstract of their ideas for the Young Researcher Competition. Participants will then have a four-month period (until 31/10/2019) to further develop their proposal into a final project.

The Submission should be a report based on the Final Project Template (available for download from the TRA VISIONS website), a short presentation and a project poster accompanied by an optional short video (mandatory for all shortlisted).

The submission phase will be followed by an Evaluation of Ideas period during which a judging panel will determine which are the top 3 ideas per mode (road, rail, waterborne, airborne and cross-modality).

Both the winning certificates and prizes will be awarded at TRA 2020 (Award Ceremony).

Registration

Join the TRA VISIONS Young Researcher Competition

Register now and share your visionary ideas and get the chance to receive in return the TRA VISIONS Award for the best idea.

Participation is limited to young researchers who are registered in a college, university or technical institute from across the European Union, EU Candidate countries, potential EU candidate countries and European Economic Area. A young researcher is defined as a university and technical institute student pursuing a BSc, MSc, PhD or comparable degree. Those young researchers who have graduated earlier than 01/01/2018 are not eligible to apply. However, those who have already graduated from a PhD degree are welcome to participate in the senior researcher competition. Eligibility will be checked before full access to the TRA VISIONS YOUNG RESEARCHER COMPETITION is granted (a process that usually takes 2 to 7 days).

For more information regarding the Young Researcher Competition, download the “YOUNG RESEARCHER COMPETITION GUIDELINES 2020” or write an email to info@travisions.eu.
